In the Belly of the Beast: The Deeper Dive Into the Dark Side of Whaling.
Join Park Rangers as they dive into the darker side of commercial whaling.
The true external cost of 19th-century whaling was immense, both economically and ecologically. Whaling during this period led to the near extinction of several whale species, disrupting marine ecosystems and the livelihoods of communities that depended on them.
The industry also had profound social impacts. It created a class of wealthy merchants and shipowners, but at the expense of the sailors and workers who faced dangerous and often brutal conditions. The environmental devastation was significant, with whale populations plummeting and the broader marine environment suffering as a result.
We hope you could join us as we explore this dark chapter in the whaling industry. Let us honor the memory of those impacted by striving for a better, more responsible world.
