On Veterans Day, Adams National Historical Park will commemorate the service and sacrifice of veterans, while exploring the Adams family’s historic ties to the U.S. military, through special programs appropriate for all ages. Nov. 11 is also a fee-free day at National Park Service sites, including Adams National Historical Park.

Learn more about John Adams’s role in the founding of the U.S. Navy during free programs at 2:30 and 4 p.m. on the grounds outside of the Carriage House at Peace field, 135 Adams St., Quincy. Reservations are not required.

Guided tours of the Old House at Peace field and Stone Library offer visitors an opportunity to explore the Adams family’s lives and their contributions to the nation across generations. Reservations are required and are available in person on a first-come, first-served basis at the National Park Service Visitor Center, 1250 Hancock St., Quincy. Large bags, food and beverages are not permitted inside the historic buildings. The Adams Farm at Penn’s Hill, home to the John Adams and John Quincy Adams birthplaces, remains closed for a major landscape restoration project and is scheduled to reopen in spring 2027.

Visitors should park at the visitor center at 1250 Hancock St., and either walk or ride the park trolley one-half mile to Peace field. Limited accessible parking will be available along Adams Street at Peace field. The visitor center and the Old House at Peace field are accessible by the MBTA Red Line from Quincy Center Station, approximately one-half mile away. Visitors are encouraged to allow extra time to travel between park sites. Please note that trolley service will be suspended during the Quincy Veterans Day Parade, from approximately 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The historic homes are not climate controlled. Visitors should be prepared for cold temperatures and dress appropriately for the weather. Programs may be modified or cancelled due to inclement weather or unsafe conditions. Any schedule changes, alerts or updates will be posted on the park website and social media channels.

Veterans, Gold Star Families, active-duty military personnel and their dependents may obtain free America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Passes at the visitor center. These passes cover entrance or standard amenity (day-use) fees at thousands of federal recreation areas, including national parks. More information about pass options, eligibility and required documentation is available online.

The visitor center and the historic homes are open Wednesday through Sunday. The 2026 tour season will continue through Nov. 13. For additional information about tours and programs, visit the park website: www.nps.gov/adam.
