Description

This March, Women's History Month will be celebrated at the Mary McLeod Bethune Council House National Historic Site, with the popular series Programs in the Parlor. Each program blends a short talk, museum, and a special artifact.

On Saturday, March 14th, Katie McCabe, co-author of the book "Mighty Justice: My Life in Civil Rights" will discuss co-writing the biography of Dovey Johnson Roundtree. Highlights of Roundtree's life include:

  • One of the first African American female officers in the U.S. Army
  • One of the first African American female lawyers in U.S. history
  • The first African American to be admitted to the Women's Bar Association of Washington, D.C.

Also, a special one-day display of Roundtree's World War II uniform will be part of this presentation! Music by DC Strings Workshop to include pieces from the Big Band Era.
