Darren Sewestewa from the village of Hotevilla on Third Mesa. He has been making jewelry since the ‘90s. He is self-taught and uses traditional symbols such as water, clouds, feathers, and animal designs in his silver overlay jewelry.
Greg Hill has been making toy tops since 2008. Using cottonwood roots, he carves and decorates the tops in traditional style. He will demonstrate how to use a spinning top to play the Hopi game of Patukya. Greg says, "My work helps to keep that inner kid alive and strong, and reawakens the inner child.”
- The Cultural Demonstration program provides an opportunity for park visitors and community members to interact with tribal artisans from Grand Canyon's traditionally associated tribes - and for them to share their history and crafts, along with the skills, knowledge, and efforts involved in creating their handicrafts.
- This series is made possible with grants from Grand Canyon Conservancy.
