1864 Saving Bodies and Souls: The United States Christian Commision
Created by what is known today as the Y.M.C.A., the U.S.C.C. worked out of the park's historic Roeder Block to give soldiers aid and comfort. The Roeders offered their dwellings to the USCC for supplies and materials. USCC Diet Kitchens prepared specialized menus for the sick and wounded. The public is invited to inspect foods made from USCC recipes at the park’s beehive oven like Chicken Jelly, and Hardtack army bread fixed 6 ways!
