Au Sable Light Station Tours

Tours consist of a guided walk around the grounds and support buildings, followed by a climb up the lighthouse tower to learn about the tower’s original Fresnel lens. At the top, and experience a breathtaking view of Lake Superior and the Grand Sable Dunes.

Participants must be wearing closed-toed shoes to climb the tower, children cannot be carried up the light station tower, backpacks cannot be worn in the tower.

Tours may be cancelled due to weather without notice.

Location

The Au Sable Light Station is located 12 miles west of Grand Marais on County Road H-58. To reach the light station, park in the Hurricane River Lower Loop day use area and take the trail 1.5 miles east. Biting flies are often fierce in this area, visitors may wish to wear long pants and a bug net.
