Description
The purpose of the Cultural Demonstration Program is to elevate the voices of members from the traditionally associated tribes. Demonstrations allow visitors to Bandlier National Monument the opportunity to meet Native American artists while they practice traditional and modern crafts.
Marcelino Anthony Moquino is a silversmith from Santo Domingo/Kewa Pueblo. As he says:
What inspires me to make jewelry is just being native and my culture. Using this gift the creator gave me and teaching others… I know some people don’t like to share their work with others, but I’m not afraid to teach anyone, especially the younger generation. We need to teach our kids our history, as we are losing our culture slowly. I was lucky enough to learn from my grandpas and my uncles way of life when I was growing up. I want to pass it on to my kids and family, and for my people my nation.
Demonstrations are free and open to the public and take place on the back patio of the Bandelier visitor center.
This program is made possible by funding from the Friends of Bandelier National Monument to cover costs like demonstrators' travel and their time.
