Celebrate National Park Week with Parks on Air!

The Blackstone Valley Amateur Radio Club (BVARC) invites the public to discover the excitement, challenge and service of amateur, or ham, radio during a daylong demonstration at Old Slater Mill National Historic Landmark on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M., rain or shine. This event is part of this year's National Park Week celebration.

During the program, BVARC will establish several operating stations so visitors can observe ham radio in action. Visitors will also have the opportunity to discover the excitement of making contacts with other hams throughout the U.S. and the globe. Experienced BVARC operators will be available to introduce visitors to the cornucopia of amateur radio interests, including the science and technology behind the hobby and the cultivating of lasting friendships worldwide by communicating through the medium of radio waves. This event is free, open to all, and appropriate for all ages.

The day's activities fulfills two of the club's core missions, to commemorate the nation's 250th anniversary and to introduce the public to the services and rewards of amateur radio. BVARC is an affiliated member of the Amateur Radio Relay League  (ARRL.org), ham radio's national organization. Additional BVARC information is available at its website: W1DDD.org.
