Celebrate the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton at with Hamilton Grange National Memorial and Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society. Taking place to commemorate the anniversary of the infamous duel, CelebrateHamilton is a yearly event that highlights Alexander Hamilton's contributions to the young United States.

From 10:00 am - 1:00pm, live fife and drum performers from the Hearts of Oak militia company will be demonstrating colonial era music. Come enjoy live performances and chat with these wonderful historical interpreters and musicians; learn about their instruments and favorite tunes.

At 10:00 am, author and historian Nancy Spannaus will give the lecture, "Alexander Hamilton vs. Slavery."

Drawing from her research on her upcoming book Why American Slavery Persisted, Spannaus will argue:

From his first political acts in the American Revolution, to his death, Alexander Hamilton consistently attacked the practice of slavery, both morally and economically. Implementation of his economic principles, as set out in the Report on Manufactures, was essential to ending the evil of slavery peaceably. When we abandoned Hamilton’s American System principles, we virtually doomed ourselves to a Civil War.

At 11:00 am, author and historian Dr. Richard Sylla will give a lecture on the topic of Hamilton's "Report on Manufactures".

Both proponents and critics of modern industrial policies--government interventions to correct purported flaws of free markets--sometimes trace the origins of industrial policy in America to Hamilton's 1791 Report on Manufactures. Sylla will draw a distinction between industrial policies and industrialization policies, and I argue that Hamilton's Report was more about the latter than the former.

At 12:00 pm, Alexander Hamilton (Scott MacScott) and Aaron Burr (Kyle Jenks) will be giving a dramatic reading of the letters that led to the infamous duel that would end Hamilton's life.

Join the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society and the Hamilton Grange National Memorial in this reading of the letters exchanged between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton, building up to the duel that took Alexander Hamilton's life. Letters will be read by historical interpreters and reenactors Scott MacScott as Alexander Hamilton and Kyle Jenks as Aaron Burr.

Scott Mac Scott has portrayed Alexander Hamilton all over the world. Following in Alexander's footsteps from his birthplace in Nevis to his final resting place in New York's Trinity Church, Scott is a compelling historic performer who embodies Hamilton.

Kyle Jenks is a professional interpreter of fourth U.S. President James Madison. His umbrella company American Heritage Living History Productions covers the many aspects of his performance based educational programs. From writing letters to clients as Mr. Madison, to live appearances, to giving tours in character as Congressman Madison, to acting in his own plays and skits, Kyle has kept his passion alive by achieving the highest level of historical accuracy combined with entertainment value to increase learning retention. On this occasion, Jenks will be interpreting Vice President Aaron Burr.
