Description

On May 25, 1865, the Twenty-fifth Corps, which included United States Colored Troops (USCT) regiments, embarked for Texas. They were present for what we know today as Juneteenth. The National Park Service is partnering with the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation for a special event commemorating “Shove-off Day.” 

Schedule of events
12:00 pm: Flag raising, Cannon Demonstration, and Readings
12:30 pm - 2 pm: Guest Speakers and Musket Demonstration
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Tours of the Grant’s Headquarters at City Point including Appomattox Plantation House, Grant’s Cabin, and grounds with an emphasis on Black history.
