Description
Carissa "Lucky" Garcia, a Colorado-based Indigenous / Chicana spoken word artist and activist, will be working on a transformative residency during the month of April. Thanks to funding from the National Parks Arts Foundation, Garcia will embark upon a multifaceted exploration of ancestral Puebloan culture and its connection to nature throughout her month-long residency. Through poetry, spoken word, and a climate justice-focused comic book project, she aims to honor her ancestral heritage while shedding light on pressing environmental issues. Reflecting on her upbringing and ancestral wisdom, Garcia expresses gratitude for the survival and resilience of Indigenous sciences, art, history, and wisdom in the face of erasure and colonialism. Join Garcia during National Park Week as we gather to celebrate her residency project in two spoken word performances at the park's visitor center auditorium.
