Beginning on December 21, 2021 through January 1, 2022, Cape Lookout National Seashore will illuminate the iconic Cape Lookout lighthouse tower each night in celebration of the holidays. The illuminated tower is visible from the Shell Point picnic area at the end of Harkers Island (GPS address 1800 Island Road, Harkers Island, NC). The lighthouse is physically located 3 miles across the waters of Core Sound on the southern end of Core Banks.
Want a closer look at the lighthouse and the chance to take close up photos of the illuminated tower? The concession passenger ferry service will be running its ferry in the evenings of December 22, 24, 26, 28, and 30, 2021 and January 1st, 2022 from Harkers Island to the lighthouse area. The ferry trips will leave Harkers Island at 5:00 pm and return to Harkers Island by 7:00 pm giving you about 1 hour on the barrier island. Reservations are needed for the ferry trip, call the ferry directly to make reservations: 252-728-7433 Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for Children 3-11. Dress warmly for the ferry ride.
