Description

Shiloh is pleased to announce a special ranger-led hike entitled “The Counter-Attack from Jones Field” on Saturday, January 22. Follow Ranger Timothy Arnold and re-trace the movements of Generals Sherman and McClernand at noon on April 6, when they drive south and catch an unsuspecting Confederate force by surprise.

Learn about the savage and bloody assault by two newly reinforced Union divisions as they attempt to retake the ground, and camps, lost during the morning Confederate attacks. This savage push southward will give the Union Army a successful, but brief momentum shift on the afternoon of the first day at Shiloh.

The hike will take place from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and hikers will meet at Tour Stop #12 (Jones Field). The distance of the hike is a little more than two-miles miles over moderate terrain. Participants should wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather. Insect repellent, sunscreen, and water is recommended.

Pre-registration is required to participate in the hike. Please call the park visitor center at 731-689-5696 to register.
