Description
Join Steven Saffold, a Coastal Chumash Flintknapper, as he teaches the special techniques on how to flint knap. Flintknapping is the shaping of stones, where you can possibly make a tool or decoration.
There is a minimum age requirement to attend this workshop of 15 years and up. We will be working with sharp objects. Materials and tools will be provided along with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), such as gloves and safety glasses.
The event and parking are free. The workshop will take place outside of the Native American Indian Culture Centers’ porch.
Reservations are required. If you cannot make it, please use the Eventbrite platform to cancel your ticket. This will allow waitlisted visitors to join.

Please arrive early for there is a short walk from the main parking lot to the culture center.
Directions to Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center
Main Entrance: From the 101 Freeway, exit at Wendy Drive and head south. Turn right on Lynn Road. Turn left on Via Goleta. Continue all the way to a parking lot where the road ends.
Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center: Walk 0.3-miles up gravel road from the main entrance parking area to brown wooden building (Culture Center).
