On Saturday, March 22 Petersburg National Battlefield invites the public to come discover the story of the Battle of Fort Stedman, a key moment in the Petersburg Campaign.

NPS Park staff will conduct a special anniversary walking tour, about 1-mile, of the battlefield at 1:00 pm. Early in the morning of March 25, 1865, Confederate forces captured U.S. Fort Stedman, hoping to draw U.S. troops away from the western side of Petersburg. The U.S. counterattack succeeded in forcing the Confederates back to their lines.

The tour will begin at Stop 5 on the Eastern Front Tour Road. All the commemorative events are family friendly, free, and weather permitting.
