Description

Students will be able to make and take the Corn Husk Person home (boy &/or girl). Corn Husk People have been made by Southeastern Native Americans since the beginnings of corn agriculture more than a thousand years ago. Every part of the ear of corn was used. Although corn husk people were considered a children's toy, they were sometimes used during healing ceremonies or to ward off evil dream spirits. We also add Corn Woman, Three Sisters, and other corn stories during the
presentation if time allows. It is advisable that kids be able to tie their shoe because students tie about 10 double knots with the sinew/string when making a doll. If not they will need an adult to help.
