Join General George Washington and a British Army officer for informal talks throughout the day exploring the significance of the anniversary, on this date in 1783, of the departure of the last contingent of British troops from New York City, marking the end of the Revolutionary War. For many years in the late 18th and 19th centuries, Evacuation Day was a recognized and enthusiastically celebrated holiday in New York.
