Description

Ranger-led Telescope Program from Lilly Bluff Overlook on December 6, 2021

'Tis the season....for winter stargazing!  Earlier sunsets and longer nights mean the celestial delights of our night sky are out for earlier viewing!  Bundle up to join our Dark Sky Ranger to view the nightscape from the Lilly Bluff Overlook on December 6, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Dark skies with only a thin crescent moon on that night are optimal conditions for telescope viewing of deep space objects such as the Andromeda Galaxy and Pleiades star cluster, as well as, unaided viewing of some of the best constellatiions of the year.

This event is subject to favorable clear-sky weather conditions.  In the event of inclement weather or cloud cover, the event may be cancelled.  Be sure to call the Obed Visitor Center before 5 p.m. on the day of the event to confirm the status of the event.  Amateur astronomers are also invited to bring their telescopes to join our program and may contact the visitor center for more information.
