Enjoy the fall foliage through the Poconos on the way to Delaware Water Gap! Upon arrival, visitors will have the option to remain on board for an extension into the scenic Slateford Junction, or to offload and enjoy a couple hours to explore the nearby village. This trip is one of our most popular excursion events of the season and seats are expected to fill up quickly.

Delaware Water Gap Station Description and Details:

History: The Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railway (DL&W) first arrived at the Delaware River in 1856 with a train to New York City. The terrain from Scranton had been mountainous and isolated; the route traced the course of major streams, crossed the Lehigh's headwater at Gouldsboro, and bisected Pocono Summit Lake on DL&W's land bridge.

The historic station was built between 1903-1904 and designed by Frank J. Nies, an architect best known for having designed numerous DL&W stations. The style of the building is reflective of the Late Victorian Era. The station closed to passenger service in 1953 and was sold to the Borough of Delaware Water Gap in 1958.

Today, The DL&W single track is still in use through the Delaware Water Gap between the river and Route 611. Visitors to Steamtown National Historic Site can enjoy an excursion train reaching Point of Gap Overlook. Just outside Delaware Water Gap’s park boundaries, the rail station awaits renewal and can be glimpsed from the Interstate-80 toll plaza westbound.

Amenities: There are limited amenities at the station itself; grilled food and cold beverages will be available for purchase. There will also be bus transportation into town where visitors can enjoy local vendors and restaurants.

Train ride will last approximately 3 hours; departing Steamtown at 9 a.m. and arriving to Delaware Water Gap at 12 p.m. There will be a 3-hour layover at the Delaware Water Gap Station to allow folks time to explore the village. Returning train ride will last approximately 3 hours; departing Delaware Water Gap at 3 p.m. and arriving to Steamtown at 6 p.m.
