Join us at Steamtown National Historic Site for a presentation by artist and author J. Craig Thorpe. For the last thirty years Thorpe has specialized in railway promotional art and illustration and has recently published Railroads, Art & American Life. This 45-minute presentation will trace both Thorpe's personal journey as an artist and the connections between railroads, history, art and culture. Through art commissioned by rail suppliers, museums, private collectors, Amtrak, the White Pass & Yukon Route and other railways (including some in northeastern Pennsylvania), as well as examples of classic railway advertising art, Thorpe will share his passion for railroading's past, present, and future. Copies of Railroads, Art & American Life will be for sale on-site at Steamtown's park store.
