Into The Volcano

Join Volunteer Ranger John Owens, Into the Volcano! This ranger program takes you down 440 feet (120 m) to the floor of the caldera via the historic 1864 Halemaʻumaʻu Trail. Walk though a beautiful native forest and learn about the geology, flora and fauna, and the history of this area along the way. 

Closed-toe shoes, proper clothing, bottled water, and other hiking necessities are required for this moderate 3.2 mile, 440 foot (120 m) descent and ascent ranger program.


Group size is limited to the first 25 people. Tickets are available at the Kīlauea Visitor Center lānai on the day of the program only.
