Sign Talk

 

Learn how individuals could communicate with many different cultures and people without speaking words or knowing each others language. Practice the signs necessary to make trade for Fort’s Colvile’s store items and fur pelts.

 

Women of the Fur Trade

 

Learn about women working in the fur trade companies. See what they wore, how they generally lived during the fur trade and their roles in society.

 

Life of Free Trapper

 

Discuss with a hunter how beavers were trapped and the hides prepared for trade. Observe the displays of firearms and animal traps of the 1800s.

 

Primitive Bow and Arrow

 

See what it takes to create a bow and arrow the traditional way. Learn about all of its uses and why it was so important.

 

Location and Facilities

 

The free event will be held around the Kettle Falls Historical Center on St Paul Mission Rd, Kettle Falls, WA 99141.  All sessions are outdoors regardless of weather. Sessions are spread out, so be prepared to walk. Outdoor restrooms available.
