Description

Have you ever wondered about what it is that makes Shenandoah National Park the unique and
special place that it is? How old are the Blue Ridge Mountains and how did they form? What
kind of forests used to be here and what kind of forest do we have now? Did we have glaciers
and mammoths? Were Native American’s here? What kind of flora and fauna now call this
place home? How do geography, climate and weather influence and impact the park? What has
been the impact of people on the park landscape? What happened to our chestnut trees? What
kind of problems does the park face and how is it dealing with those issues. If you have ever
have thought about any of these questions then you want to join Certified Virginia Master
Naturalist Jack Price for a captivating journey through Shenandoah’s long, varied and matchless
natural history. Jack will answer these questions along with any others that you bring with you.
This program will consist of a classroom session in the morning and a three mile afternoon hike
up Hawksbill Mountain, the highest peak in Shenandoah National Park.
