Description

What role did art play in the lives of women, whether or not they were professional artists in the late nineteenth century? Dr. Leanne Zalewski is an Associate Professor of Art History at Central Connecticut State University, and will share her expertise on this topic from 10:00 to 11:00 am on September 14. This talk ruminates on the role of art in women's education and personal and professional lives. The Flower Painting and More: Women and Art in the Late Nineteenth Century Lecture is part of a series of women’s history programs that commemorate the centennial year of the suffragist movement.  In 1919, Congress passed the 19th amendment to the United States Constitution, and when it was ratified a year later, women across America won the right to vote. This historic event happened because thousands of women--called suffragists--fought for over 50 years to secure this right. In this centennial year of that landmark legislation, Weir Farm NHS celebrates and honors the effort, creativity and vision of all women.
