2:30 p.m. - Visitors gather in stage area at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens   2:35 p.m. – Visitors are invited to read poems written by Langston Hughs and D.C. Poet Laureate, Joy Harjo. 2:45 p.m. - Facilitated dialogue in which visitors can discuss their thoughts on “Where do you go to escape the pressures of the world?”   3:00 p.m. - Healing Day Bell Ringing Ceremony - This ceremony will last four minutes, honoring 400 years of African American history and culture. 3:05 p.m. – Free art class. Visitors will be taught basic instruction in painting natural scenes and aquatic flowers.


Description

Join the National Park Service staff of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens as part of a nationwide
commemoration honoring and remembering the enslaved Africans brought to Point Comfort
(Fort Monroe National Monument) Virginia in 1619. At Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, visitors
will have the opportunity to actively participate in the commemoration through a special poetry
reading, art class, and commemorative bell-ringing at 3:00 p.m.
