Description

Join a park ranger on Pennsylvania Avenue and walk in the footsteps of the suffragists.

The women’s suffrage movement was a large-scale civil rights campaign that lasted more than seven decades. In the early 20th century, a new generation of suffragists, impatient with the lack of progress to win the vote, demanded an amendment to the constitution enfranchising women. These activists defied expectations of their time, staging confrontational demonstrations as they asked, “How long must women wait for liberty?” Learn about the courageous activism and fight to win the ballot by the women in the National Womans Party, including leaders like Alice Paul, Lucy Burns, and Ida B. Wells.

Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water and sunscreen. Plan like a park ranger.
