Did you know that the first public celebration of Washington's Birthday was at Valley Forge in 1778? Bring the kids and join Mrs. Washington, members of the Continental Army, and others to celebrate His Excellency's 288th birthday. Produced in conjunction with the Valley Forge Park Alliance, Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board, and The Encampment Store.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

10:00-11:45, 12:30-2:00 Meet George and Martha Washington:  George and Martha Washington will meet the public for pictures in the main tent (next to the temporary visitor center.)

10:00-2:00 Birthday Cards for the General: Kids can show their appreciation to the General by creating a birthday card for him in the  main tent.

Join the Continental Army: Kids can enlist into the Continental Army, learn basic marching steps, and get reviewed by the Commander-in-Chief himself!  Enlistment begins in main tent at 10:00.  All recruits muster for training outside the heated tent at 11:00, to be marched up to a mini parade ground (just above old Visitor Center) for training.

11:45-12:30 Celebrate Washington’s Birthday: Get a free cupcake from The Culinary Arts Institute of Montgomery County Community College and hear an address from George and Martha Washington.  (NOTE: Soldiers First!  Participants in the Join the Continental Army program will gain first access to cupcakes.) Finish with a march to the Mulhenberg Brigade Huts for a soldier life demonstration (see below).

10:00-3:00 Meet Soldiers of the 2d PA Regiment. While celebrating continues, the army still has an encampment to maintain. Meet members of the 2d PA Regiment at the Muhlenberg Brigade Huts (Stop #2) as they work to survive the winter. Black powder weapons demonstrations included (weather permitting).
