Description
Walk with a park ranger from Cherry Grove to Sailors Haven. Along the way, explore the interconnections of the natural and human landscapes on the barrier island. Stroll the pedestrian boardwalks through the vibrant seaside community of Cherry Grove and traverse swale and ocean shore habitats. After the program, extend your stay at Sailors Haven and explore the Sunken Forest – a 300 year old globally rare holly maritime forest, or head back to Cherry Grove on your own.
Take the 9:25 am Cherry Grove Ferry from Sayville and meet the park ranger on Fire Island at Cherry Grove ferry landing at 10 am. Wear comfortable walking shoes; bring sun and insect protection, a snack, and drinking water. 1 mile, one way.
