Description

Join us in the celebration of Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage!

Join us in celebrating Asian American & Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Day on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Santa Monica Mountains Visitor Center at King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas.

The inaugural event will be hosted by National Park Service rangers from Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and the Western National Parks Association (WNPA).

Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders have a rich heritage thousands of years old. These cultures have helped shape the history of the United States.

Activities and presentations will highlight these diverse and fascinating cultures.

Throughout the day, there will be Taiko drumming, Hawaiian feather work and lei-making, Japanese and Chinese calligraphy, Japanese music and historical presentations on Chinese abalone fisherman by rangers from neighboring Channel Islands National Park.

A variety of cultural dances will also be performed including ancient and modern hula dancing, Japanese folk dancing and Filipino dancing.

The event and parking are both free.
