Amphibian Week Celebration
This event has already occurred. This page is provided for reference only.
Special Event
Amphibians were around long before the dinosaurs and they’ve persisted as a group through many major environmental upheavals, but, alarmingly, over the last few decades, they have been disappearing. They are now the most endangered class of vertebrates worldwide—that’s why Amphibian Week was started.
Join us on the National Mall May 5, to celebrate amphibians with family-friendly activities and to learn about these fascinating animals from amphibian biologists from the National Park Service, U.S. Geological Survey, Smithsonian Institution and more. We plan to have live amphibian ambassadors as well as a visit from our Amphibian Week mascot, Phil the Frog.
