Think you have what it takes to train like a Buffalo Soldier?

Join us, April 20, 2024, between 9:30am and 11:30am during #NationalParkWeek and #Discover how the Buffalo Soldiers trained and stayed in shape.

As a military officer, Brigadier General Charles Young was known for keeping his soldiers in top tier shape. Young also made sure to keep himself in shape during the process. In 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt signed Executive Order 989, stating all military officers were required to ride their horse 90 miles in 3 days to prove they were physically fit. As the military stepped away from the use of horse's physical fitness tests started to evolve to the use of pushups, running, sit-ups and etc.

All participants will try various exercises to see if they have what it takes to be a Buffalo Soldier.
