Description

This annual event is put on by the Friends of Katahdin Woods and Waters to celebrate some of the darkest skies east of the Mississippi River. 

Noon - 2:30 PM: Partial solar eclipse
Safely view the partial solar eclipse with expert astronomers. Solar glasses will be provided.

Noon - 4 PM: Family activities with Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument
Children will have the opportunity to earn their Junior Ranger Night Explorer badge. 

5:30 PM: Campfire chats
Featuring the National Park Service, expert astronomers, and the drumming group Turning Eagle Singers. 

7 - 10 PM: Night sky viewing
Guided night sky viewing with astronomers and professional telescopes. Monitor light pollution with the National Park Service.

This year the event will take place at Taylor’s Katahdin View Campground.
