Description
Join us for a volunteer-led bird walk on Sunday, April 7th at 8:00 AM in the Brandywine Valley!
With the return of spring comes the return of migrating birds moving north to their nesting grounds. Many stop to rest along the Brandywine Creek and some will even make their nests there! Species we may encounter include Eastern Phoebe, Tree Swallow, Wood Duck, and Osprey.
The walk will be about two miles along easy to moderate trails, but wear sturdy shoes as trails may be muddy. A limited amount of binoculars are available to borrow, but bringing your own pair is recommended. Beginners welcome! Meet in the parking lot along Ramsey Road.
Our Interpretive Volunteer, Declan O’Neil, has been an avid birder all his life and has been birding the Brandywine Valley tract for ten years (longer than it has been a National Historical Park!). For the past five years, it has been his “local patch” and he goes birding there whenever possible. He has six years of experience leading bird walks, both for Delaware Ornithological Society and Delaware State Parks, and now for the NPS. He has a deep love for the local birding community and is passionate about supporting new birders and promoting conservation initiatives.
