Description
Military Chaplains: Their Mission, Their Gear, Their Faith Monroe, Michigan – The River Raisin National Battlefield Park is honored to host the display Military Chaplains: Their Mission, Their Gear, Their Faith on Saturday, April 1, through Friday, April 7, 2023.
For many of us, M*A*S*H reruns are our only source of knowledge of military chaplains - members of the clergy attached to the US Armed Forces. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn of the many duties performed by military chaplains – some solemn, some joyful, but all crucial.
Military Chaplains: Their Mission, Their Gear, Their Faith features the field/traveling gear of clergy of diverse faiths. Uniforms, photos, and personal items will also help tell the stories of these dedicated clerics.
During the seven days of the exhibit, militaria expert Bob Heskett will be on hand to introduce visitors to his ‘chaplain gear’ collection, considered to be one of the region’s finest assemblies of these portable, durable, precious items. Heskett states, “I work at an alternative high school, and during one particularly challenging year, I found comfort in assembling these items. The more I worked on my collection, the more comfort I found.”
Military Chaplains: Their Mission, Their Gear, Their Faith runs from Saturday, April 1 through Friday, April 7. Special talk: On Sunday, April 2 at 2:00 pm in the Park’s Visitor Center Theatre.
Bob Heskett will discuss his collection of chaplain gear and tell the stories of those who used that gear, on and off the battlefield. Admission to the Park, the exhibit, and the talk, is free. The River Raisin National Battlefield Park 333 North Dixie Highway Monroe, MI 48162 Open daily 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
