Description

With Union victory in the Civil War, Lincoln’s war powers would evaporate. The sense of the victory - the eradication of slavery – had to be sealed under normal rule of law. The cliff-hanger story of Lincoln's role in, and Congress's passage of, the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution, ending slavery nationwide, tells us that they did it just in time to make a permanent victory for “Freedom National.”
