Description

It’s time to lace up your hiking boots!

Join Ranger Peelee for a 3 miles round trip hike to the Petrified Forest.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is home to the third highest concentration of petrified wood in the United States. These geological wonders give context to the park's past, allowing hikers to travel back to a time when, instead of buttes and prairies, the landscape was dominated by massive trees and shallow swamps.

Be prepared to hike approximately 2 hours and don't forget to check the weather.

Difficulty: Moderate (approximately 650 feet of elevation gain)

Meeting Place: Ranger Peelee will be leaving from the front of the South Unit Visitor Center at 8:15am or you can meet at the Petrified Forest trailhead at 9:00am.
