Description
Whitman Mission National Historic Site will be hosting a National Public Lands Day event on September 23rd, 2023 from 12:00 PM until 2:30 PM The park hopes to bring in 30 or more volunteers to celebrate the 30th anniversary of National Public Lands Day.
To begin, volunteers will be able to meet park staff at a brown bag lunch and listen to a ranger program at the picnic shelter. Afterwards, volunteers will assist park rangers by removing invasive species at the top of the park's hill, bagging them, and transporting them to the dumpster area near the maintenance work area. The work will be done outside and exposed to the sun. Volunteers should come with sun protection, sturdy shoes and water. Tools, gloves and bags will be provided by the park. Volunteers who assist the park will earn a coupon for one-day fee free entry to NPS sites for the next year.
Volunteers interested in signing up for the invasive species clean-up can email e-mail us, apply at volunteer.gov, or call the Whitman Mission visitor center at 509-522-6360 to sign up. The Ranger programs throughout the day do not require a reservation or sign-up to attend.
There are multiple ways to sign up for the event:

- Call the Whitman Mission Visitor Center at 509-522-6360
- Go to Volunteer.gov and search Whitman Mission
- Come into the Whitman Mission visitor center and speak to a ranger
We ask that you sign up in advanced so we can know how many volunteers to expect and be prepared for the event. There is not a cap on how many volunteers we can host, but want to be aware of how many people may join the event. The Ranger programs throughout the day do not require a reservation or sign-up to attend.
