Description
On July 1st celebrate Mammoth Cave National Park’s 78th anniversary of becoming a National Park site with a special ‘Birthday Party.’ Partake in free activities in front of the visitor center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities include: ‘Pin the Bat on the Cave,’ 1941 era trivia, a candle blowing competition and a time capsule (to be opened in 22 years on the 100th birthday.) Mammoth Cave was designated a National Park in 1941 due to its rich history and extraordinary geology. Mammoth Cave has been explored over the past 5,000 years and today is the world’s longest known cave currently mapped at 412 miles.
Should you decide you wish to tour Mammoth Cave, tickets are required to enter. During the busy summer months (particularly the week of July 4th) cave tours routinely sell out. Consider making reservations on www.recreation.gov in advance.
