10 am to 4 pm: Village —Duane Koyawena, Hopi Painter, Demonstrates at the Visitor Center

Grand Canyon National Park

  • Every day at 10:00 AM from February 20, 2024 to February 22, 2024
  • Free

This week, the Cultural Demonstration Program presents Duane Koyawena, Hopi Painter, Tuesday through Thursday, February 20 through February 22, 2024, from 10 am to 4 pm. at Grand Canyon Visitor Center on the South Rim.

Duane draws artistic inspiration from his traditional Hopi culture and his everyday life. His experiences, including overcoming past struggles with alcohol addiction, shape who he is as an artist, father, exhibit curator, motivational speaker, and Mental Health Technician at Flagstaff Medical Center.

His artwork has been showcased nationally, most recently at the Museum of Northern Arizona and the Center of Southwest Studies where he served as co-curator for the PIVOT Exhibit

Meet and watch him at work at the Grand Canyon's South Rim Visitor Center, and learn more about Hopi culture and art.

  • The Cultural Demonstration program provides an opportunity for park visitors and community members to interact with tribal artisans from Grand Canyon's traditionally associated tribes - and for them to share their history and crafts, along with the skills, knowledge, and efforts involved in creating their handicrafts.

  • This series is made possible with grants from Grand Canyon Conservancy.
