Description
The McBride House Experience Media Information
Come learn about the oldest house in Potter county, cowboy and pioneer culture, and experience traveling back in time to the early days of ranching in the Texas Panhandle.
Topics covered: Pioneers, ranching, 1900’s authentic recipes, cowboy culture, lifestyle, and fashion. Learn the uses of a “Wild Rag” and receive a vintage cowboy recipe. If the soapberries are in bloom, we will make a soap like the McBride’s probably used many years ago. You will also learn how to determine the age of a cottonwood tree. There may be some cottonwood trees that were planted 123 years ago on the McBride Ranch.
You will also hike with a park ranger to identify edible, medicinal, and useful plants in the canyon and learn how to identify invasive species and poisonous plants. We hope to discover some brilliant fall colors as we hike through dazzling displays of nature during late September. This is an area many of you may not know about and will enjoy experiencing McBride Canyon for the first time. It is so beautiful in the fall.
Wear hiking attire such as hiking shoes, long sleeved shirts, long pants, hiking socks, hat, and be prepared for changes in the weather during this time of year. Other suggestions: Bring water, plant identification book, bandana, pencil, and a small journal to record what you see. No dogs are allowed on this hike.
