Description

Join the National Parks of Boston and San Francisco Maritime NHP for Connections and Conversations.

Presenters: Chris Edwards, San Francisco Maritime NHP and Warren “Buzz” Smith, National Parks of Boston VIP

During World War II, both USS Cassin Young (DD-793) and USS Pampanito (SS-383) were part of the Pacific Fleet. The crews of both ships utilized technology at hand and summoned bravery from within to face the enemy and to protect our allies. Among their proudest moments were rescuing allies and fellow Americans from dangerous situations. Discover how Pampanito rescued American prisoners of war, and how Cassin Young saved fellow sailors from their sinking ship.

Today, both vessels serve as National Landmark museums. They are lovingly cared for by volunteers, many of whom are Navy Veterans.
