Shiloh National Military Park is pleased to announce a ranger-guided program on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Join Park Ranger Anthony Killion at 10:00 am for an approximately one-hour long program including a short walk alongside the Tennessee River at the historic location of Pittsburg Landing.

March 16th marks the 162nd anniversary of the beginning of the Union Army’s occupation of Pittsburg Landing prior to the Battle of Shiloh. Join Ranger Anthony and put on your general’s hat to examine the strategic choices facing Union and Confederate commanders in the Western Theater in the late winter of 1861-62. We will attempt to answer the question, “Why was a battle fought near Shiloh Church?” Then ask yourself what you might have done differently if you had been in command at the time.

All are welcome to attend the program. Please register in advance by calling the Shiloh Visitor Center at 731-689-5696. Program participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and to be prepared for a walk of up to half a mile over hilly and uneven terrain.
