Description

Every fall Nez Perce people and others return to the battlefield to commemorate the final battle of the Flight of 1877 and to honor those involved in a moving memorial service. Everyone is invited to attend and there is no admission fee.  This year the commemoration will take place on October 3, 2020.

The ceremony begins at 10am on the lawn in the upper parking lot, and is usually finished by lunch. Events usually include a pipe ceremony and drum circle (NO PHOTOS PLEASE).

On-site facilities are limited to a small picnic shelter and vault toilets. Layered warm clothing is advised and everyone is encouraged to bring their own chairs.

The health and safety of our visitors and employees is our top priority. We ask the public to be our partner in adopting social distancing practices and to wear a cloth face covering when social distancing cannot be maintained.

Park rangers are on duty to uphold normal rules and regulations and assist visitors as needed. Modifications to operations will be flexible, continually evaluated and adjusted as necessary to ensure public health and safety.

The NPS encourages you to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and follow Leave No Trace principles when you visit.

Directions to the battlefield and information about nearby ammenities can be found on the Bear Paw Battlefield's web page.
