Description
The Civil War touched every corner of the United States. Anywhere the US Army went, baseball quickly followed. From fundraisers games played by the most popular amateur teams in big cities, to improvised games just behind the front. What was known as the "New York Game" in 1861, emerged as "The National Pastime" in 1865.
This September 8th, come join the rangers of Fort Washington, and the 19th century baseball historians of the Mutual Base Ball Club of New York in a demonstration of "Base Ball" the way it was before hot dogs, before free agency, before the players even used gloves.
Game 1 is at 10 am and Game 2 is at 12:30, both games will be played in the main parade ground of the park. Come out and be a rooter for your favorite side!
Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the game.
