This two-day festival will take place on January 11 and 12, 2025 from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM each day. It is a chance for Cabrillo National Monument to invite visitors to the park and encourage them to learn about the importance of our oceans. Each year, exhibitors and speakers from an array of backgrounds present on issues relevant to their work and the ongoing pursuit of healthy oceans and coasts. Presentation topics have ranged from animal behavior and the rocky intertidal zone to ocean conservation and community science.

Cabrillo National Monument has hosted this event for the past three decades, typically drawing between 6,000 –7,000 visitors over the course of the weekend. The event will celebrate the 75th anniversary of land-based recreational whale watching, which first occurred in 1955. Organized whale watching started in the United States when Cabrillo National Monument was declared a public venue for observing gray whales.

In addition to exhibitors and speakers, we will have guided tours, and activities for all ages. Staff and volunteers will be stationed throughout the park to help visitors spot whales and explore the tidepools.
