Description

August 27,1862 is an often-overlooked day in the Second Manassas Campaign. But it served as an important precursor to the Battle of Second Manassas, which began the next day, August 28. Two battles were fought along the Orange and Alexandria Railroad on August 27. The movements, battles, and decisions made on that day helped sow the seeds of Federal defeat just days later at the conclusion of the Battle of Second Manassas.
