Description
The McBride House Experience Media Information
Come learn about the oldest house in Potter county, cowboy and pioneer culture. Experience traveling back in time to the early days of ranching in the Texas Panhandle.
Topics covered: Pioneers, ranching, 1900’s authentic recipes, cowboy culture, lifestyle, and 1900's fashion. Learn the uses of a “Wild Rag” and receive a vintage cowboy recipe. If the soapberries are in bloom, learn how to make a soap like the pioneer's used. You will also learn how to determine the age of a cottonwood tree.
After the McBride House experience, hike with a park ranger to identify edible, medicinal, and useful plants in the canyon. Learn how to identify invasive species and poisonous plants along the way. See the brilliant fall colors as we hike through dazzling displays of nature during late September. You will also learn how to use a nature journal to document experiences in nature.
Wear hiking attire such as hiking shoes, long sleeved shirts, long pants, hiking socks, hat, and be prepared for changes in the weather during this time of year. Other suggestions: Bring water, snacks, plant identification book, bandana, pencil, and a small journal. No dogs are allowed on this hike.
Meet at the first campground at McBride Canyon Campgrounds at 9:30 AM
