Description
The Peninsula Foundation is partnering with the Cuyahoga Valley National Park to bring back the History of the Cuyahoga Valley Lecture Series!
In March, Ranger Arrye Rosser will present "Women of the Cuyahoga Valley: Harriet Louise Keeler and Jane Edna Hunter."
In the 1920s, one of the first areas of public parkland in Cuyahoga Valley—the Harriet Keeler Memorial Woods—was preserved in honor of this “Teacher-Author-Citizen.” It remains the heart of Brecksville Reservation. In the 1930s, the Phillis Wheatley Association—lead by Jane Edna Hunter—founded Camp Mueller just south of Peninsula. It continues to serve primarily African American youth from Cleveland. Both Keeler and Hunter were remarkable women whose long professional careers were born from the social movements of the Progressive Era. Come hear Ranger Arrye Rosser make the case that their achievements are nationally significant.
Lectures are free but donations are always welcomed and appreciated to help the Peninsula Foundation and the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park bring quality programming to Northeast Ohio.
