Youth Ice Fishing Events

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

  • Every week on Saturday at 1:00 PM from January 18, 2025 to February 02, 2025

Young participants will learn essential ice fishing skills, safety measures, and fishing regulations, culminating in a "Junior Angler" certification and a fishing pole to take home (while supplies last). If ice conditions permit, attendees will have the opportunity to ice fish.

 

Important:

Programs may be cancelled or the location may change due to snow conditions or winter temperatures.

The decision to cancel or change the location is made two hours in advance. Please call 231-326-4700, ext. 5005, for a voicemail message with the final details.

Programs should be assumed cancelled if Leelanau County or Benzie County are under a "Winter Storm Warning" issued by the National Weather Service.

Fees

There is no cost for the event or programs; however, you must have a park entrance pass, or an annual pass displayed in your vehicle. Passes can be purchased online at https://www.nps.gov/slbe/planyourvisit/fees.htm.

This is a pop-in style program, so you can arrive anytime between 1 pm and 4 pm. To ensure that all participants have ample time to complete the Junior Angler booklet and activities, we ask that you arrive at the Dune Center no later than 3 pm.
