Leatherworking in Washington's Army with James McKane
Leatherworking in Washington's Army
When: Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 10 AM to 4 PM
Where: Muhlenberg's Brigade (Tour stop #2)
Join living historian James McKane to learn how leather items such as cartridge pouches, shoes, breeches, and other army accoutrements were constructed during the American Revolution.
Try your hand at stitching and stamping leather and take home a small souvenir of your work!
Participants will have the opportunity to practice stitching leather using rounded wooden needles and waxed linen cord, and to stamp a piece of leather with a brass stamp featuring the words "U-States" using a small wooden mallet. Participants can take this stamped leather home.
In the event of rain or inclement weather, the program will be moved to the second floor of the Visitor Center at Valley Forge.
